Ashgabat, July 24, 2026 – The Europe Today: Turkmenistan has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting international peace, security, and sustainable development through the responsible management of natural resources during a high-level debate of the United Nations Security Council.
On 22 July 2026, the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Vepa Hajiyev, addressed the UN Security Council High-Level Open Debate titled “Maintenance of International Peace and Security: Managing Natural Resources for Peace, Security and Prosperity.”
In his remarks, Ambassador Hajiyev underscored Turkmenistan’s consistent advocacy for the responsible, equitable, and mutually beneficial management of natural resources, describing them as a key driver of peace, sustainable development, and enhanced international cooperation.
He highlighted Turkmenistan’s longstanding international initiatives aimed at strengthening preventive diplomacy, promoting the philosophy of peace and trust, improving energy and transport connectivity, reinforcing water security, and advancing environmental cooperation. These priorities, he noted, have been reflected in 32 resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly adopted on Turkmenistan’s initiative.
The ambassador also referred to the recent meeting of the Presidium of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, which reaffirmed the country’s steadfast commitment to policies focused on strengthening international peace, security, and sustainable development.
Concluding his statement, Ambassador Hajiyev reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s readiness to continue making a constructive contribution to the work of the United Nations through the promotion of preventive diplomacy, trust-building, responsible natural resource management, and mutually beneficial international cooperation.
He also highlighted Turkmenistan’s candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2031–2032 term, emphasizing the country’s determination to actively support the UN’s efforts to promote global peace, security, and sustainable prosperity.
