Moscow, September 13, 2026 – The Europe Today: Trilateral negotiations involving Russia, Ukraine and the United States could resume as early as October, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said, as diplomatic efforts intensify to revive talks aimed at addressing the conflict.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Peskov said Moscow did not rule out the possibility of renewed trilateral discussions in the foreseeable future, potentially in October.
Earlier, the Kremlin spokesman said Russia hoped for a “restart of negotiations” involving Russia, Ukraine and the United States.
The trilateral format was last used in Geneva in February, following two earlier rounds of talks in Abu Dhabi. However, the negotiations subsequently stalled without producing significant breakthroughs.
Peskov’s latest comments come amid renewed diplomatic efforts by US President Donald Trump’s special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The two officials met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow last week before travelling to Kyiv for discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The Kremlin described the meeting between Putin and the US representatives as constructive and “extremely candid,” while Witkoff indicated that progress had been made towards arranging a three-way meeting.
The possible resumption of trilateral negotiations was also discussed during a telephone conversation between Putin and Trump on Tuesday, according to Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov.
Meanwhile, Zelensky said the next round of trilateral negotiations could potentially be held in the United Arab Emirates, Türkiye, Switzerland or another country as early as September or October.
Moscow has repeatedly stated that it remains open to diplomatic efforts, provided that the underlying causes of the conflict are addressed and the realities on the ground are taken into account.
Ukraine, for its part, has maintained that it will not accept territorial concessions to Russia.
The latest statements indicate renewed diplomatic activity surrounding the conflict, although no date or venue for a new trilateral meeting has been formally confirmed.
