Paris, September 18, 2026 – The Europe Today: French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday announced that the Group of Seven (G7) countries would hold a meeting in the coming weeks to discuss the ongoing energy crisis and strengthen cooperation to ensure energy supplies.
Macron said the meeting would focus on enhancing coordination among G7 members and key partners, while avoiding unnecessary tensions amid the current energy market pressures.
He added that the discussions would also consider possible measures, including the release of strategic energy reserves and the lifting of certain restrictions, similar to steps taken several months ago.
The French president made the remarks during a news conference after meeting leaders of political parties represented in the French parliament to discuss the crises in the Middle East and Ukraine and their repercussions on global energy markets.
Macron’s announcement comes as his government faces growing pressure over high fuel prices and concerns about energy supplies linked to the continuing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
