Turkmenistan

Moscow, October 5, 2026 – The Europe Today: Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit Turkmenistan this week to participate in a summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), according to the program of the Russian television program “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin,” broadcast on Russia 1.

Putin is scheduled to attend the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State, which will take place on October 9 in the Avaza National Tourist Zone of Turkmenistan.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will also travel to Turkmenistan to participate in a meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers on October 7, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced on September 30.

According to Zakharova, the foreign ministers will review the preliminary results of the CIS’ activities during the current year and discuss prospects for further strengthening multilateral cooperation within the organization.

The meeting will also focus on preparations and issues related to the 35th anniversary of the CIS, which will be marked in 2026.

The CIS Council of Foreign Ministers meeting will precede the gathering of the heads of state, with both meetings scheduled to take place in the Avaza National Tourist Zone.

Putin’s participation in the summit underscores the importance Russia attaches to cooperation within the CIS and comes as member states prepare to mark the organization’s 35th anniversary.
