Jakarta, October 15, 2025 – The Europe Today: President Prabowo Subianto has hailed the ceasefire agreement reached at the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, as a significant first step toward achieving lasting peace in Palestine.

Speaking at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Tuesday, President Prabowo stated, “I think this is a good start. We attended the Summit to express our support. Most importantly, the ceasefire is in place, and Israeli troops will withdraw immediately.”

The President emphasized that the presence of numerous world leaders at the signing of the ceasefire agreement would help pave the way for enduring peace in the region. He noted that Indonesia’s active participation in the Summit reflected its consistent commitment to supporting peace efforts and ending the violence in Gaza.

In addition to the withdrawal of Israeli forces and addressing humanitarian concerns, President Prabowo revealed that the agreement also includes provisions for the release of hostages. He reaffirmed Indonesia’s long-standing moral and political commitment to the Palestinian cause, stating, “I have defended Palestine for decades. We have continuously supported the independence of Palestine and the Palestinian people.”

The Gaza Peace Summit, held on Monday (October 13) in Sharm El Sheikh, was co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and United States President Donald Trump. The meeting brought together world leaders from the Middle East, Europe, and Asia, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Heads of government from Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Greece, Hungary, Pakistan, and Canada also participated, alongside representatives from major international organizations such as UN Secretary-General António Guterres, European Council President António Costa, and Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit.

Earlier, President Prabowo had instructed the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to prepare peacekeeping troops for potential deployment in Gaza, contingent upon the Summit’s constructive outcome and subsequent approval by the UN Security Council.
