Jeddah, March 10, 2024, The Europe Today: In a dream debut for Ferrari, British teenager Oliver Bearman etched his name in Formula One history during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on Saturday. The 18-year-old, the youngest-ever rookie for the Italian team, not only claimed the title of Driver of the Day but also demonstrated his potential as a future talent in the sport.
Bearman, stepping in as a stand-in for the ailing Carlos Sainz, started the race from the 11th position and showcased remarkable skill to finish in an impressive seventh place. The teenager’s standout performance earned him accolades from fans, fellow drivers, and team members alike.
Reflecting on his debut, Bearman admitted, “I don’t even know what happened in the race. It’s weird to not watch an F1 race.” He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share the track with seasoned drivers like McLaren’s Lando Norris and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, whom he held off in the final moments of the race.
Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc, who finished third, praised Bearman’s extraordinary performance, stating, “Today he’s been incredible. Everybody has noticed how talented he is, and I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before he’s in F1.”
Lewis Hamilton, the most successful driver in Formula One, was quick to extend his congratulations to Bearman, offering a handshake and an embrace as the young driver stepped out of the Ferrari. “He clearly deserves it, and I’m sure we’ll see more of him again in the future,” said Hamilton.
Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur commended Bearman for his flawless debut, highlighting that the rookie made no mistakes throughout the race and even accelerated in the closing stages to secure his position ahead of experienced rivals.
Bearman, who had initially approached the weekend focused on Formula Two, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s fast car and his own clean race execution. With a modest demeanor, he acknowledged the support from his team and peers, recognizing the successful transition from Formula Two to Formula One.
As Bearman looks forward to more opportunities, the paddock buzzes with anticipation about the promising future of the young British driver, who has already left an indelible mark in his maiden Formula One appearance.
