Guangdong, April 25, 2024, The Europe Today: The Guangdong Southern Tigers clinched a spot in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) League playoffs semifinals with an impressive 117-82 victory over the Zhejiang Lions in Game 4 of their best-of-five quarterfinal series on Thursday.
Despite missing key big men due to suspension and injury – Zhou Qi for Guangdong and Hu Jinqiu for Zhejiang – the Southern Tigers dominated the court, particularly showcasing their prowess in the backcourt battle.
Guangdong’s sharp shooting was evident as they made 14 three-pointers compared to Zhejiang’s three out of 28 attempts from beyond the arc. Additionally, the Southern Tigers’ advantage in height translated into a commanding performance on the boards, outrebounding Zhejiang by a margin of 55-40.
Hu Mingxuan led the scoring for Guangdong with 23 points, sinking seven three-pointers, while Du Runwang contributed 18 points. Tremont Waters recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 assists.
On the Zhejiang side, guard Sun Minghui put up a game-high 27 points, including 15 from the free throw line, and Quinndary Weatherspoon added 25 points.
With this victory, the Guangdong Southern Tigers advance to the semifinals where they will face the Liaoning Flying Leopards, who secured their spot with a 3-0 series win over the Shenzhen Aviators.
