Turkmenistan and South Korea Forge New Agreements During State Visit of Yun Seok-Yeol

Ashgabat, June 11, 2024,The Europe Today: Negotiations between President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan and President Yun Seok-yeol of the Republic of South Korea concluded successfully in Ashgabat, as reported by the Turkmenistan State News Agency (TDH). The state visit culminated in the signing of several significant bilateral agreements.

Following their meeting, the two leaders oversaw the signing ceremony of a comprehensive package of agreements, highlighting the deepening cooperation between Turkmenistan and South Korea:

  1. Agreement on Cooperation between the State Concern “Türkmenhimiýa” and Hyundai Engineering Co., Ltd.:
    • This agreement focuses on implementing measures for the successful commissioning and stable operation of the polymer plant in Kiyanly.
  2. Framework Agreement on Cooperation between the State Concern “Turkmengas” and Hyundai Engineering Co., Ltd.:
    • The agreement entails the design, construction, and acquisition of commercial gas treatment facilities with a capacity of 10 billion cubic meters and wells at the fourth stage of the Galkynyş gas field.
  3. Memoranda of Understanding in Healthcare:
    • Between the Emergency Ambulance Center of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan and Chilgok Hospital at Kyungpook University of the Republic of Korea.
    • Between the Scientific and Clinical Center for Oncology of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan and Chilgok Hospital at Kyungpook University of the Republic of Korea.
  4. Memoranda of Cooperation in Other Areas:
    • Between the Hyakimlik of the city of Ashgabat and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea in the field of energy infrastructure and new city development.
    • Between the Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Export-Import Bank of Korea, and the Korea Trade Insurance Corporation.
    • Between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Korea on supporting the activities of the joint cooperation commission.
    • Between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Korea on creating a framework for stimulating trade and investment.

In addition to these agreements, the presidents of Turkmenistan and South Korea signed a Joint Statement to mark the conclusion of President Yun Seok-yeol’s state visit to Turkmenistan.

This visit and the resulting agreements underscore the commitment of both nations to strengthen their bilateral relations and collaborate on key areas of mutual interest, including industrial development, healthcare, infrastructure, and trade.
