Ashgabat, June 25, 2024, The Europe Today: On June 24, the National Music and Drama Theater hosted the premiere of the opera “Makhtumkuli,” a key event in the celebration of the Day of Cultural and Art Workers of Turkmenistan.
Originally created in 2012, the production was restored through the collaborative efforts of the theater teams and the Turkmen National Conservatory named after May Kulieva, as reported by the Ministry of Information and Culture (MIC).
The opera features music composed by Yuli Meitus, with a libretto by Alta Karlyev and Berda Kerbabaev. Honored Artist Gurban Babayev conducted the performance, and Honored Artist Ainazar Batyrov directed the production.
In the leading roles, Begench Moshshyev portrayed the young Magtymguly, while Dunyagozel Begalyeva played the role of Mengli. The plot of the opera intricately weaves through the significant milestones in the life of the esteemed poet Magtymguly Fragi, providing a dramatic and musical portrayal of his biography.
The premiere of “Makhtumkuli” not only celebrated the rich cultural heritage of Turkmenistan but also showcased the talent and dedication of its artists, contributing to the nation’s vibrant artistic landscape.
