Muscat, July 17, 2024, The Europe Today: Uzbek Ambassador to Oman Abdusalam Khatamov of Uzbekistan recently visited the Khazain economic town in Oman to familiarize himself with its operations and engage in discussions with regional leadership, as reported by Uzbek media sources.
During his visit, Ambassador Khatamov met with Salim al-Tukhli, the executive director of Khazain economic town, along with other officials from the management board. The discussions primarily focused on enhancing cooperation between Uzbekistan and Oman, advancing joint projects, and strengthening ties with Uzbek business communities. Key topics included the establishment and promotion of exports of agricultural products from Uzbekistan.
The Omani hosts delivered a comprehensive presentation on the economic capabilities of Khazain economic town, highlighting its role as an economic zone that integrates logistics, light industry, and commercial enterprises. They also underscored the opportunities available for Uzbek exporters to lease warehouses within the town.
Uzbek Ambassador to Oman Explores Economic Opportunities
As part of the visit, Uzbek diplomats were given a tour of the town, including the wholesale trade center for agricultural products and the operational procedures involved in trading activities. Notably, Khazain economic town facilitates customs and phytosanitary inspections directly on-site for agricultural products transported by trucks.
The discussions concluded with an agreement to continue dialogue aimed at facilitating the export of agricultural goods from Uzbekistan to Oman, utilizing the facilities and logistical advantages offered by Khazain economic town.
Launched in June 2024, Khazain Economic Town spans a vast area of 52 million square meters in Barka, Oman. The project represents a collaborative effort between Oman’s public and private sectors, accommodating packaging, distribution, production facilities, as well as essential services such as banks, law firms, and financial institutions.
Ambassador Khatamov’s visit underscores Uzbekistan’s commitment to exploring and expanding economic cooperation with Oman through strategic initiatives like Khazain economic town, fostering mutual growth and development between the two nations.
