Ashgabat, July 18, 2024, The Europe Today: Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with the new UNICEF Resident Representative in Turkmenistan, Jalpa Ratna, as reported by the state news agency TDH.
During the meeting, the discussion focused on the current state and future prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN Children’s Fund. President Berdimuhamedov emphasized that collaboration with international organizations remains a key component of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy.
The achievements of bilateral cooperation were highlighted, including Turkmenistan’s election to the UNICEF Executive Board for the 2024-2026 term. This year, ten documents were signed, covering cooperation in health care, education, and social security for children.
Special attention was given to the protection of children’s rights. President Berdimuhamedov announced the approval of the National Action Plan for the implementation of children’s rights for 2023-2028 and underscored the significance of the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation, which aids children in need.
“It is very important to take care of children and teenagers and surround them with special attention,” President Berdimuhamedov stated.
Concluding the meeting, President Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to continuing its comprehensive partnership with the UN Children’s Fund, and wished the head of the UNICEF Ashgabat office good health and success in her work.
