Paris, July 28, 2024, The Europe Today: Japan will join Spain in the men’s football quarterfinals at the 2024 Paris Olympics after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Mali in their group stage encounter on Saturday. Midfielder Rihito Yamamoto scored the decisive goal in the 82nd minute. Mali had a chance to equalize with a stoppage-time penalty, but forward Moussa Diakite missed his effort.
In an earlier match, Spain triumphed over the Dominican Republic 3-1. Despite being down to 10 men, the Dominican Republic managed to level the score in the first half through Angel Montes. However, Spain dominated the second half, with goals from Alex Baena and Miguel Gutierrez sealing their victory.
