Ashgabat, August 01, 2024, The Europe Today: Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the new US Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Elizabeth Rood, during a formal ceremony where she presented her credentials. The diplomat conveyed greetings and best wishes from US President Joseph Biden, affirming the United States’ interest in enhancing friendly interstate relations, according to the NHC.

President Berdimuhamedov congratulated Elizabeth Rood on her appointment to the high diplomatic post and wished her success in further developing multifaceted Turkmen-American cooperation.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

The meeting highlighted the productive nature of the political and diplomatic dialogue between the two countries. Regular contacts between relevant departments facilitate a constructive exchange of views on current international issues, including sustainable development, security, and climate change.

President Berdimuhamedov emphasized Turkmenistan’s active foreign policy aimed at strengthening peace and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at both regional and global levels. Turkmenistan’s neutral status has been recognized twice by the United Nations, underscoring its commitment to these principles.

Economic and Trade Cooperation

A key focus of the bilateral cooperation is the trade and economic sector. The contribution of the Turkmenistan-USA Business Council in realizing mutual potential was noted. Prominent American companies such as Boeing, General Electric, John Deere, and Case New Holland have been implementing significant joint projects in Turkmenistan for many years, highlighting the great prospects for expanding mutually beneficial economic partnerships.

Cultural and Humanitarian Ties

Cultural and humanitarian relations are also integral to Turkmen-American ties. Mutual visits of delegations, Culture Days, exhibitions, and other events contribute to the strengthening of these connections. Recently, the Magtymguly Pyragy cultural and park complex was opened in Ashgabat, featuring sculptures of renowned foreign literary figures, including American poet Langston Hughes.

Ambassador’s Commitment

Ambassador Elizabeth Rood expressed her honor in representing the United States in Turkmenistan and assured her commitment to enhancing the interstate dialogue and elevating it to a new level.
