Bishkek, September 07, 2024, The Europe Today: Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has issued an official order dissolving local councils and scheduling new elections, according to a statement from the president’s press service. The dissolution affects councils in key regions, including Bishkek, Osh, and other major municipalities across the country.
The decision was made to implement the recently enacted law concerning administrative and territorial units at the rural and town levels, in line with changes in the boundaries of these regions.
Local councils in Bishkek and Osh, along with those in the Batken, Jalal-Abad, Issyk-Kul, Naryn, Osh, Talas, and Chui regions, have been officially dissolved. Elections to replace these councils are scheduled to take place on November 17, 2024.
Additionally, local elections in Batken, Leilek district, and the towns of Batken and Sulukta, located in the Batken region, will be held at a later date. This delay is due to pending legislative adjustments related to ongoing administrative and territorial reforms.
Preparations for the upcoming elections will begin on September 17, 2024. The government is expected to ensure a smooth electoral process as it implements these reforms aimed at improving the administrative structure of Kyrgyzstan’s municipalities.
