Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan Parliamentary Speakers Discuss Expanding Bilateral Cooperation

Baku, May 22, 2026 – The Europe Today: Speaker of Azerbaijan’s parliament, the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova met with Marlen Mamataliev, Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, during her working visit to the Russian Federation.

During the meeting, Gafarova congratulated Mamataliev on his election as Speaker and wished him success in his future responsibilities.

The two sides praised the successful development of friendly and fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan, noting that bilateral ties, rooted in centuries-old historical relations, continue to strengthen in the spirit of mutual partnership and friendship.

The speakers highlighted the important role of reciprocal visits and high-level meetings between the presidents of both countries in deepening bilateral cooperation.

The discussions also focused on growing parliamentary relations between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan. The parties emphasized that legislative institutions play a significant role in advancing bilateral ties.

It was noted that the two parliaments maintain close cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral frameworks, including active engagement within international parliamentary organizations such as the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS, the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States, the Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States, and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly.

The speakers underlined that mutual visits and continued contacts between parliamentary leaders and lawmakers contribute to further strengthening cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
