Andijan, September 18, 2024 – The Europe Today: Zayniddin Nizomkhodjayev, Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Republic of Uzbekistan, visited the Andijan region to oversee preparations for the upcoming elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, as well as regional, district, and city councils of people’s deputies.
During discussions with election commission members, Nizomkhodjayev emphasized the importance of strict adherence to the procedures outlined in the Election Code throughout all stages of the electoral process. He highlighted the responsibility of commission members in ensuring a transparent and fair election, and provided suggestions regarding the formation of the voter list.
The CEC Chairman also inspected the press center at the territorial election commission. He noted the center’s critical role in maintaining openness and transparency in the upcoming elections, scheduled for October 27, and in ensuring citizens have access to timely and accurate information.
In addition to these inspections, Nizomkhodjayev participated in workshops and training sessions at Andijan State University and other institutions. He underscored the importance of election staff being well-versed in the latest electoral legislation and ensuring the elections are conducted at the highest standards.
With the elections being held under the framework of Uzbekistan’s renewed Constitution, the CEC Chairman stressed that these elections will take place in an environment of enhanced parliamentary powers and stronger local representative bodies. The new “E-saylov” information system and its advantages in streamlining the electoral process were also discussed during the visit.
