Beijing, March 7, 2025 – The Europe Today: Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized the critical role of education in advancing science, technology, and talent development. Addressing a joint group meeting during the third session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on Thursday, Xi highlighted the necessity of aligning education with China’s modernization goals.
Xi, who is also the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, underscored the need to cultivate a steady flow of skilled talent and ensure their full potential is realized for national development. The meeting included national political advisors from the China Democratic League, the China Association for Promoting Democracy, and representatives from the education sector.
A Vision for Educational Excellence
President Xi stressed the importance of maintaining a correct orientation in managing educational institutions, as China seeks to establish itself as a global leader in education, science, technology, and talent. He called for fostering a new generation of capable young people equipped with moral integrity, intellectual acumen, physical vigor, aesthetic appreciation, and professional skills to contribute to the socialist cause.
Furthermore, he highlighted the significance of instilling in students the principles of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Xi underscored that a high-quality education system requires comprehensive reforms, including refining school management structures, granting greater decision-making autonomy to institutions, and ensuring legal-based school governance.
Innovation and Talent Development
Xi stressed that independent scientific and technological innovation must go hand in hand with self-reliant talent cultivation. He called for improving mechanisms that align talent development with the country’s economic and social needs to enhance both quality and efficiency.
Emphasizing that the advancement of education, science, and technology is a collective responsibility of the Party and society, Xi urged the CPPCC to maximize its role as a specialized consultative body in shaping policies for national progress.
Senior officials, including Wang Huning, Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, and Cai Qi, Director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, also participated in the discussions alongside Xi. Both Wang and Cai are members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
