Ashgabat, October 25, 2024 – The Europe Today: Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Ivan Volynkin, has expressed his deep gratitude to the Turkmen authorities for their dedicated efforts in preserving the memory of the Great Patriotic War and honoring the Soviet soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the fight against fascism. In an interview with Orient, Volynkin praised Turkmenistan’s commitment to maintaining war memorials and monuments, reflecting the shared history between the two nations.
“Next year marks the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory over fascist invaders, and it is heartening to see that the leadership and citizens of Turkmenistan continue to warmly support Russian initiatives to commemorate this event,” Volynkin stated.
He further emphasized the importance of unity during the war, noting that the Soviet people’s collective efforts were crucial in defeating fascism. Looking ahead to 2025, Volynkin expressed hope that the descendants of those who fought in the war would participate in Ashgabat’s Immortal Regiment march.
In preparation for the anniversary, plans include the creation of an Alley of Memory near the Russian Embassy, traditional concerts featuring wartime songs, and screenings of well-known military-patriotic films. Flower-laying ceremonies at memorials and creative evenings dedicated to the shared victory will also be organized, ensuring the memory of this significant historical event remains alive in the hearts of both nations.
