Beijing, November 28, 2024 – The Europe Today: Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized the critical role of supply and marketing cooperatives in strengthening ties between the Communist Party of China (CPC), the government, and farmers. He urged these cooperatives to contribute to rural revitalization and modern agricultural development, as well as to write a new chapter in their high-quality growth.
Xi, also General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, made these remarks in a statement commemorating the 70th founding anniversary of the All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives.
Milestones and Achievements
Established in 1954, the federation has served as a key national economic organization responsible for managing agricultural production supplies, sideline products, and essential goods. Over seven decades, it has played a significant role in enhancing rural economies, eradicating absolute poverty, raising farmers’ incomes, and promoting rural-urban integration.
President Xi commended the cooperatives for their contributions and called on Party committees and governments at all levels to bolster their leadership and support for the sector. He also urged the cooperatives to build integrated platforms to support farmers’ livelihoods and production needs, while facilitating the development of modern agriculture.
Calls for High-Quality Development
Chinese Premier Li Qiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, also issued instructions, encouraging the cooperatives to focus on improving agricultural supply chains, distributing products more efficiently, and advancing the recycling of renewable resources.
During a commemorative meeting held in Beijing, Vice Premier Liu Guozhong, also a Political Bureau member, called on cooperatives to promote urban-rural integration and contribute to comprehensive rural revitalization efforts.
The anniversary celebrations highlighted the pivotal role of the federation in aligning rural development with national priorities and ensuring continued progress in modernizing China’s agriculture and rural sectors.
