Explosion Injures Two Police Officers Outside Berlin Police Building

Berlin, January 3, 2025 – The Europe Today: Two police officers were injured, one seriously, following an explosion outside a police building in Berlin on Thursday night, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred around 8:20 PM near the fence of the building in the Wittenau district of northern Berlin.

The officers were conducting a routine security patrol when an unidentified object exploded in close proximity. According to Berlin police, one officer sustained injuries to the face and eyes, while the other suffered sound trauma. Both officers received immediate medical attention.

Berlin police announced the incident on social media platform X, describing it as a “serious security incident.” However, further details about the nature of the explosive device or the circumstances surrounding the incident were not disclosed. A police spokesperson declined to comment when approached by media.

The explosion follows a separate series of incidents involving fireworks across Germany during New Year’s celebrations. Thirty law enforcement officers were injured, including one seriously, due to illegally manufactured fireworks. Additionally, five fatalities were reported nationwide in incidents linked to the traditional use of powerful fireworks to ring in the new year.

Authorities are investigating the explosion in Wittenau, which raises fresh concerns about security risks in the capital.
