Party General Secretary Tô Lâm Hosts Russian PM Mikhail Mishustin in Hanoi

Hanoi, January 15, 2025 – The Europe Today: Party General Secretary Tô Lâm welcomed Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin to Hanoi on Tuesday, highlighting the significance of the visit as both nations celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations. This marks Mishustin’s first visit to Vietnam as Russian Prime Minister.

During the reception, Tô Lâm expressed satisfaction with the progress in Vietnam-Russia cooperation, particularly following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s state visit to Vietnam in June 2024. He emphasized that Mishustin’s visit builds upon prior agreements and sets new directions for strengthening bilateral relations.

Tô Lâm reiterated Vietnam’s enduring gratitude for the support provided by the former Soviet Union and Russia during its struggle for independence, as well as in national development and safeguarding efforts. He affirmed Vietnam’s commitment to its traditional ties and comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia, underscoring Russia as a top-priority partner in the country’s foreign policy.

The Party chief outlined several key initiatives to deepen Vietnam-Russia relations in the future, reflecting the shared commitment to fostering a robust partnership.

Strengthening Strategic Partnership

Prime Minister Mishustin expressed his honor at visiting Vietnam for the first time and extended President Putin’s invitation for Party General Secretary Tô Lâm to attend the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War in 2025. He congratulated Vietnam on its socio-economic achievements and expressed confidence in Vietnam’s continued development and prosperity under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Informing Tô Lâm of the outcomes of his talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, Mishustin commended Vietnam’s efforts in addressing challenges to advance bilateral cooperation, which has yielded significant achievements across various sectors.

Amidst the evolving global and regional landscape, Mishustin reaffirmed Russia’s appreciation for the longstanding friendship and solidarity of the Vietnamese people. He highlighted Vietnam’s role as a key partner in Russia’s foreign policy in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly in Southeast Asia.

Expanding Collaboration Across Sectors

Prime Minister Mishustin conveyed Russia’s readiness to expand cooperation and deepen its comprehensive strategic partnership with Vietnam. Areas of focus include:
