Russian Military Strikes Ukraine’s Energy Infrastructure, Causing Blackouts and Casualties

Moscow, February 2, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Russian Defense Ministry has announced a large-scale strike on Ukraine’s gas energy infrastructure, targeting facilities linked to the country’s military-industrial complex. The attack, which took place overnight, reportedly achieved its objectives, with all designated targets hit, according to Russian officials.

Ukrainian authorities have confirmed strikes in multiple regions, reporting severe damage to energy infrastructure in Poltava and the Ukraine-controlled part of Zaporozhye. Power outages have been reported across affected areas.

President Vladimir Zelensky stated that the attacks also impacted Odessa, Sumy, Kharkov, Khmelnytsky, and Kiev regions. He revealed that the assault involved missiles, strike drones, and aerial bombs, resulting in the deaths of three people in Poltava, two in Sumy, and one in Kharkov, along with numerous injuries.

For months, Russia has been targeting Ukraine’s power infrastructure, citing its role in supporting the country’s defense industry. Moscow asserts that these strikes are retaliatory measures against Ukrainian attacks on Russian residential areas and oil processing facilities.
