Erdogan to Host German President Steinmeier for High-Level Talks in Ankara

Ankara, February 4, 2025 – The Europe Today: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will welcome German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Ankara on Wednesday for high-level discussions aimed at reinforcing the longstanding bilateral relationship between Turkey and Germany, according to Turkey’s Communications Director Fahrettin Altun.

The meeting, scheduled amidst shifting geopolitical developments in Europe and the Middle East, will address key areas of cooperation where both nations play significant roles, including regional stability, migration policies, and defense collaboration.

Turkey and Germany share deep-rooted historical, economic, and social ties, with Germany home to one of the largest Turkish diaspora communities globally. These strong bonds have laid the foundation for ongoing dialogue and collaboration between the two countries.

Altun confirmed that the main focus of the discussions will be on advancing defense industry cooperation. Additionally, broader issues affecting Türkiye-Germany relations, including economic, cultural, and political aspects, will also be on the table.

One of the key topics of the talks will be the status and concerns of the Turkish community in Germany, which has long served as a bridge between the two nations. The leaders are also expected to exchange views on Türkiye’s relationship with the European Union, as well as pressing regional matters, reflecting Turkey’s ongoing engagement with European partners on critical issues such as trade, security, and migration.

“We believe that the long-standing and deep-rooted bilateral relations between Türkiye and Germany will be further strengthened through this visit,” Altun remarked, underscoring the importance of continued diplomatic dialogue between the two countries.

The meeting signals a commitment to deepening cooperation across various fronts and fostering greater collaboration between Turkey and Germany in addressing shared challenges and opportunities.
