Kazakhstan to Expand Flight Connectivity to Turkistan to Strengthen Tourism Sector

Astana, February 13, 2025 – The Europe Today: Local authorities are set to draft a comprehensive development plan for Turkistan city’s tourism sector, Vice Minister of Tourism and Sport Yerzhan Yerkinbayev announced during a Senate plenary session, News Hub Consultants reported.

According to Yerkinbayev, a lack of international and domestic flights has been a key factor hindering the city’s tourism growth. However, he noted that the number of foreign tourists visiting Turkistan doubled in 2024 compared to the previous year. In an effort to further boost tourism, the authorities plan to add 16 new planes to the country’s aircraft fleet.

“Together with the Ministry of Transport, we are working on increasing the number of flights to Turkistan,” Deputy Minister Nyssanbayev stated.

Highlighting the city’s unique status, Yerkinbayev confirmed that a dedicated plan for Turkistan’s tourism sector development would be compiled and approved. This initiative aligns with the Senate’s decision today to approve the law “On Special Status of Turkistan City.”

The new legislation is expected to facilitate strategic investments and infrastructure improvements, positioning Turkistan as a key cultural and historical tourism destination in Kazakhstan.
