Baku Hosts Prestigious “Space Technology Conference 2025”; OTS Space Agencies Unite for Joint Satellite Project

Baku, April 26, 2025 – The Europe Today: The “Space Technology Conference 2025” convened in Baku, marking a major international event in the global space industry and reinforcing regional cooperation among Turkic states. Initiated by Uzbekistan in 2022, the conference has rapidly gained prominence and continues to be a key platform for collaborative dialogue on space innovation and development, the Uzbekspace Agency reported.

A highlight of the event was the fourth meeting of the heads of space agencies from the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), including Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and Kyrgyzstan, with Hungary and Turkmenistan attending as observer states.

The discussions focused on strengthening inter-state partnerships in areas such as technology transfer, joint research, and satellite development for peaceful purposes. A central milestone was the joint advancement of a CubeSat-format satellite, a pioneering initiative representing the first collective space project of the Turkic nations. Uzbek engineers are set to design and develop the satellite’s propulsion system.

To further foster regional talent, the Uzbekspace Agency proposed a CanSat competition among OTS countries. The competition aims to engage youth in the design and testing of miniature satellites, promoting hands-on learning and enhancing interest in aerospace disciplines.

The Azerbaijani delegation committed to supporting educational outreach by offering Virtual Space Academy programs and developing a shared geoinformation system for OTS member and observer states.

Youth engagement remained a strong focus, with updates shared on the success of Space Camp Türkiye, now in its third season at the GUHEM (Gokmen Space and Aviation Training Center). Since its 2023 launch, the camp has hosted over 150 students, immersing them in fields like astronomy, astrophysics, and rocket science.

The conference concluded with a decision to hold the fifth meeting of OTS space agency leaders in Uzbekistan, further solidifying a united vision for space collaboration across the Turkic world.
