President Xi Jinping Highlights Strong China-Russia Ties Upon Arrival in Moscow

Moscow, May 8, 2025 – The Europe Today:  Chinese President Xi Jinping, upon his arrival in Moscow for a state visit and to attend the 80th anniversary celebrations of the Soviet Union’s victory in the Great Patriotic War, underscored the strength and maturity of China-Russia relations, calling it a successful model of interaction between major neighboring powers.

In a written statement issued Wednesday at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport, President Xi noted that China and Russia, as “good neighbors that cannot be moved away, true friends who share weal and woe, and good partners of mutual achievement,” have forged a unique spirit of strategic coordination for a new era. This spirit, he said, is characterized by enduring good-neighborliness, comprehensive strategic alignment, and mutually beneficial cooperation.

President Xi emphasized that the bilateral relationship is independent, mature, and resilient, bringing tangible benefits to the peoples of both nations while contributing significantly to global strategic stability. He noted the importance of China-Russia cooperation in promoting an equal and orderly multipolar world.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of both the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War and the founding of the United Nations. Xi stressed that as major powers and permanent members of the UN Security Council, China and Russia are committed to upholding the hard-won achievements of World War II, defending the UN-centered international system, and opposing hegemonism and power politics. He reaffirmed the two nations’ dedication to practicing true multilateralism and advancing a more just and equitable global governance system.

During his visit, President Xi is expected to hold in-depth discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, focusing on bilateral relations, practical cooperation, and pressing international and regional issues of shared concern. These talks aim to further strengthen the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era.

Reflecting on his return to Russia’s Victory Day celebrations after ten years, Xi expressed his anticipation to join other world leaders and the Russian people in honoring the memory of those who sacrificed their lives in the fight against fascism. He noted that the occasion would also serve as a powerful expression of the international community’s resolve to uphold fairness and justice.

President Xi’s aircraft was escorted by Russian Air Force jets upon entering Russian airspace, and he was warmly received at the airport by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova and other senior officials.
