President Xi Jinping Calls for Stronger China-Russia Coordination to Safeguard Global Fairness and Justice

Moscow, May 9, 2025 – The Europe Today:  Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday emphasized the need for China and Russia to stand firmly together and enhance strategic coordination to contribute more significantly to national rejuvenation and the safeguarding of international fairness and justice.

Speaking alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin during a joint press briefing following their bilateral talks at the Kremlin, President Xi stressed that, amid major global transformations, China and Russia must maintain a clear strategic vision to guide their partnership and align with the broader trajectory of human development.

Xi described the discussions with Putin as “in-depth, cordial, and fruitful,” noting that the two leaders reached multiple new consensuses. They signed a joint statement on further deepening the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era and witnessed the exchange of several key bilateral cooperation documents — developments Xi said inject fresh momentum into the already robust relationship.

“This marks my 11th visit to Russia — the country I have visited most frequently since assuming the presidency,” Xi said. He added that on Friday, he would attend the 80th anniversary celebrations of the Soviet Union’s victory in the Great Patriotic War, the second time he has taken part in the historic commemoration in the past decade.

Reflecting on the evolving international landscape over the past ten years, Xi highlighted that both turbulence and transformation have shaped the world, while China-Russia relations have achieved a “leapfrog development,” characterized by deepened political trust and enhanced cooperation across sectors.

“Our two nations must carry forward this enduring friendship, forged through trials and tribulations,” Xi stated. He recalled the unity of Chinese and Russian peoples during World War II, when they stood shoulder to shoulder in the fight against militarism and fascism. That wartime solidarity, he said, has laid a solid foundation for the current high-level development of bilateral relations.

President Xi called for continued deepening of political mutual trust, enhanced strategic coordination, and stronger efforts to advance the China-Russia relationship toward greater maturity and resilience. He underscored the importance of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, drawing on historical examples from World War II to present-day record trade volumes.

“The high-speed train of China-Russia cooperation has journeyed through mountains and valleys, overcoming challenges along the way,” Xi remarked, calling for intensified practical collaboration in various fields to strengthen the material foundation of the partnership and bring tangible benefits to both peoples.

Xi further emphasized the shared responsibility of both nations in defending international fairness and justice. As key theaters of the World Anti-Fascist War, China and Russia made decisive contributions to the victory and helped establish the post-war international order, he noted.

“China and Russia must remain pillars of stability and progress in the international community, uphold the UN-centered international system, and promote an equal and orderly multipolar world,” Xi said. He added that both countries should work jointly to ensure that global development is equitable and its benefits widely shared.

Highlighting the countries’ roles as major powers and emerging market economies, Xi called for greater coordination through multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and BRICS. He urged a commitment to true multilateralism, a fairer global governance system, and inclusive economic globalization.

“In these complex and turbulent times, China and Russia must steadfastly uphold their spirit of good-neighborliness, comprehensive strategic coordination, and mutually beneficial cooperation,” Xi declared. “By standing together, we can inject greater stability into global peace and security and provide powerful momentum for worldwide development and prosperity.”

President Xi’s visit and his remarks underscore the strengthening of the China-Russia partnership at a time of global uncertainty, reaffirming their joint commitment to a more balanced and just international order.
