Jakarta, June 6, 2025 – The Europe Today: Indonesia and Finland have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in key areas, particularly in energy transition, environmental sustainability, and education.
This commitment was conveyed by Indonesia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, during a courtesy meeting with the Finnish Ambassador to Indonesia, Pekka Kaihilahti, held in Jakarta on Thursday.
According to an official statement released by Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, Minister Sugiono also encouraged Finland to enhance its investment in Indonesia, especially in strategic sectors such as green energy, education, healthcare, digital infrastructure, and sustainable development.
Finland, globally recognized for its expertise and innovation in energy transition, environmental stewardship, and education, shares common priorities with Indonesia’s current national development agenda.
In addition to bilateral cooperation, trade and investment were also key points of discussion. Over the past two years, economic relations between the two countries have shown positive growth. In 2024, Finland’s investment in Indonesia reached US$22.2 million (approximately Rp362 billion), spanning 119 projects across various sectors.
Minister Sugiono further emphasized the significance of Indonesia’s partnership with Finland in multilateral platforms and expressed hope for continued Finnish support in Indonesia’s bid to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Indonesia formally submitted its Initial Memorandum (IM) to OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann on June 3 during the 2025 OECD Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) in Paris, France. The submission marks a crucial milestone in Indonesia’s accession process to the OECD, with continued diplomatic engagement expected to follow.
The reaffirmed commitment between the two nations underscores the shared vision and cooperation towards sustainable development and inclusive economic growth.
