Hanoi, May 15, 2025 – The Europe Today: Party General Secretary Tô Lâm has called for a sweeping reform of the education system in Hanoi, with a strategic emphasis on strengthening STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, foreign language proficiency, digital competencies, and the integration of modern technologies. He underscored that intellectual development must go hand-in-hand with cultural, ethical, aesthetic, and health education to shape well-rounded, future-ready citizens.
During a working visit on Wednesday afternoon to Hà Nội – Amsterdam High School for the Gifted and Cầu Giấy Secondary School, the Party leader met with teachers and students to discuss educational development and presented education practice rooms along with 100 scholarships for outstanding students at each institution. He also planted commemorative trees on the campuses to mark the occasion.
General Secretary Lâm affirmed the Party’s vision of building a modern, world-class education system imbued with Vietnamese cultural identity. He stressed the importance of cultivating a generation that excels intellectually, thrives physically, embodies national values, and possesses the capacity to compete globally, thereby enhancing Việt Nam’s standing on the international stage.
He highlighted the significance of promoting science, technology, and digital transformation within the educational sphere, noting that the implementation of modern STEM classrooms at the two schools serves as a testament to the Party and State’s unwavering commitment to investing in the country’s future. Such efforts, he said, are essential to unlocking creative potential and fostering a passion for scientific inquiry among the youth.
Encouraging students to embrace independent learning and initiative in research, he urged them to apply knowledge to real-life contexts and to become intelligent, responsible, and resilient citizens. These attributes, he said, are key to advancing educational reform and achieving the nation’s strategic development goals.
The Party chief expressed his desire to listen to recommendations from educators and students on how to enhance the quality of teaching and learning. He advocated for the adoption of innovative teaching methods, high-quality educational activities, and expanded opportunities for students to engage in scientific research, technological innovation, and foreign language communication.
He also emphasized the need to identify and nurture exceptionally gifted students as a strategic human resource for the future development of both the capital and the country.
Commending the dedication of teachers, education managers, and staff across Hà Nội, General Secretary Lâm called on all levels of Party committees, local authorities, educational institutions, mass organisations, and the wider community to continue modernising the educational system and improving its quality.
He also urged greater efforts to bridge the gap between elite schools and those in remote or underprivileged areas, reduce the academic pressure on students, promote cultural and artistic education, and implement supportive policies such as school meal programs for primary and secondary students.
General Secretary Lâm reiterated the importance of effectively implementing the Politburo’s Resolution No. 57, which focuses on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation, and national digital transformation. He stressed that Hà Nội must give priority to investing in the education sector, especially in driving forward innovative teaching models, STEM education, and digital transformation in schools.
Finally, he called for targeted support for disadvantaged students, reaffirming the Party’s principle that no student should be left behind under any circumstances.
