Islamabad, June 12, 2026 – The Europe Today: Cuban Ambassador to Pakistan, Damián Cordero Torres, extended warm congratulations to Dr. Emmanuel R. Fernandez, Ambassador of the Philippines to Pakistan, on the occasion of the Philippines’ National Day and the 128th anniversary of the country’s independence.
During the event, Ambassador Cordero Torres also conveyed heartfelt condolences to the people and government of the Philippines over the recent earthquake that struck the southern region of the country, causing loss of life and damage to property. The Philippine ambassador expressed his appreciation for Cuba’s message of sympathy and solidarity, while also acknowledging Havana’s longstanding support for nations affected by natural disasters.
On the sidelines of the gathering, the Cuban envoy held discussions with the Ambassador of Zimbabwe to Pakistan, His Excellency Titus M. J. Abu Basutu, and his spouse. The two diplomats exchanged views on the recent visit of Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Elio Rodríguez Perdomo to Harare, where he participated in the Fourth Meeting of National Coordinators of the Group of Friends in Defense of the United Nations Charter (GADC). They also reflected on the commemoration of four decades of Cuban medical cooperation in Zimbabwe.
Ambassador Cordero Torres expressed gratitude to the Zimbabwean government for its consistent support of Cuba and its firm opposition to the intensified United States blockade against the Caribbean nation.
The Cuban ambassador also met with the Apostolic Nuncio to Pakistan, Monsignor Germano Penemote, during which he praised the Holy See’s continued efforts to promote peace, dialogue, and mutual understanding among nations. He particularly commended the Vatican’s constructive role in encouraging engagement and understanding between Cuba and the United States.
The diplomatic interactions underscored Cuba’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation, solidarity, and dialogue with partner nations and institutions while advancing shared goals of peace, development, and multilateral cooperation.
