Ashgabat, July 21, 2026 – The Europe Today: Turkmenistan and the United Nations have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and advancing preventive diplomacy during a meeting between Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and Kaha Imnadze, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Central Asia and Head of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA).
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on Monday, focused on reviewing the current state of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN Regional Centre, as well as exploring prospects for expanding collaboration.
During the discussions, both sides highlighted the important role of the UN Regional Centre as a unique platform for promoting preventive diplomacy, enhancing regional security, and fostering trust, dialogue and mutual understanding among the countries of Central Asia.
Special attention was given to strengthening regional cooperation through initiatives that promote a culture of peace, constructive dialogue and confidence-building measures, while supporting joint efforts aimed at ensuring long-term peace, security and sustainable development across the region.
The two sides also exchanged views on preparations for upcoming joint events and discussed cooperation under regional programmes and projects being implemented with the support of the United Nations.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants expressed confidence that the partnership between Turkmenistan and the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia would continue to develop in a constructive and mutually beneficial manner, contributing to peace, stability and sustainable development in Central Asia.
