Islamabad, July 29, 2026 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday directed authorities to immediately make the facilities of the newly established federal government-operated national central data center, Sky 47, available to all federal institutions, as part of efforts to accelerate Pakistan’s digital transformation.
Chairing a review meeting on the implementation of the National Digital Vision, the prime minister also instructed authorities to convene a meeting of the National Digital Commission at the earliest to brief all stakeholders, including provincial governments, on the implementation of the national digital policy.
Established under the Digital Nation Pakistan Act 2025, the National Digital Commission is chaired by the prime minister and includes all provincial chief ministers as members.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said a unified national data center for the public sector would provide a centralized platform for data from all government institutions, eliminating the need for separate departmental data centers and resulting in substantial savings of national resources.
He said the Pakistan Digital Authority was providing a transformative direction for government services, social systems and citizen-centric service delivery, emphasizing that the implementation of a comprehensive national digital vision was essential for building an integrated and modern society.
The prime minister praised progress achieved under the three core pillars of the National Digital Vision—digital economy, digital citizen services and digital government services—stating that effective implementation of the integrated policy would strengthen Pakistan’s international partnerships and enhance the country’s representation at global forums.
He stressed that the vision, implemented in consultation with federal and provincial governments and relevant institutions, would improve decision-making, institutional performance and transparency in line with international standards.
Directing authorities to prioritize key sectors, the prime minister said the National Digital Vision should initially focus on health, agriculture, utilities, housing and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to ensure faster and more efficient public service delivery.
He noted that once fully implemented, the initiative would enable citizens to access a broad range of government services through a single digital identity, including document verification, banking, healthcare, financial transfers and other essential public services via a unified digital platform.
During the meeting, officials informed participants that, in accordance with the prime minister’s directives, implementation of the National Digital Vision is already underway in the agriculture, food, health, energy, housing and SME sectors.
They added that work is progressing in 14 additional priority sectors, which are expected to improve institutional performance while generating positive outcomes for Pakistan’s economy, industry and commerce.
The meeting was informed that implementation of the vision in the housing sector would introduce a centralized identification number for all public and private properties, while the SME component would establish a unified system of unique legal business identities aimed at increasing productivity and promoting economic growth.
Officials further stated that all legal, administrative and institutional measures required for the full implementation of the National Digital Vision are being expedited, with international best practices and input from global experts and leading international institutions incorporated into the implementation process.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Minister for National Health Services Syed Mustafa Kamal, Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, Jameel Ahmad and senior government officials.
