Moscow, August 6, 2026 – The Europe Today: Russia has authorized the production, import and sale of lower-environmental-standard gasoline in a bid to ease domestic fuel shortages and stabilize supplies amid a continuing fuel crisis.
The measure, approved by the Russian government and signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, permits the temporary production and sale of Euro-2, Euro-3 and Euro-4 gasoline until July 1, 2027. The decision took effect immediately following its publication on the country’s Official Legal Information Portal.
The move is intended to boost fuel availability across the domestic market as Russia faces supply disruptions linked to refinery constraints and rising seasonal demand. It follows a series of government measures aimed at maintaining stability in the country’s fuel market, including restrictions on fuel exports and steps to secure supplies for key sectors of the economy.
Russia has been grappling with fuel shortages and price pressures after repeated attacks on oil infrastructure disrupted refining operations, prompting authorities to introduce emergency measures to ensure adequate domestic fuel supplies.
Officials said the temporary relaxation of fuel-quality standards is designed to strengthen energy security, prevent supply disruptions and support consumers and businesses while refinery capacity is restored. The government has indicated that the measure will remain in force until mid-2027 as part of broader efforts to stabilize the domestic fuel market.
