Azerbaijan

Baku, October 12, 2026 – The Europe Today: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Manet have expressed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, investment, joint manufacturing and energy security.

The two leaders held an expanded meeting in Baku on October 12 during Hun Manet’s official visit to Azerbaijan, where they discussed a broad range of issues on the bilateral agenda and explored opportunities to deepen their partnership.

Welcoming the Cambodian prime minister and his delegation, President Aliyev said the two countries enjoyed good political relations and should capitalize on these ties to develop a comprehensive roadmap for cooperation in various fields.

He described the visit as a demonstration of friendship between the two countries and said it provided an important opportunity to explore the full potential of bilateral engagement.

Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan and Cambodia could expand collaboration in trade, investment, joint manufacturing, energy security and other areas, expressing confidence that the visit would produce positive results and further strengthen relations between the two countries.

The Azerbaijani president also thanked Hun Manet for accepting his invitation to attend the forthcoming summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), which Azerbaijan will host for the first time.

He noted that Azerbaijan’s chairmanship had received unanimous support from member states, describing it as a demonstration of their respect for the country’s policy based on sovereignty and an independent position.

Aliyev expressed hope that the summit would contribute to strengthening security in Azerbaijan’s region and across the wider Eurasian region.

For his part, Prime Minister Hun Manet thanked President Aliyev for inviting him to the CICA summit and for arranging his official visit to Azerbaijan. He also expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended to him and his delegation.

The Cambodian prime minister said there was considerable potential to expand engagement between the two countries, whose bilateral relations had been established more than 30 years ago.

Hun Manet expressed his readiness to continue discussions on the issues raised during the meeting and identify concrete measures to broaden bilateral cooperation.

He also conveyed the greetings and highest regards of King Norodom Sihamoni and former Prime Minister and Senate President Hun Sen to President Aliyev.

In response, Aliyev asked Hun Manet to convey his greetings to the Cambodian king and Hun Sen, recalling that he had met Hun Sen 12 years earlier at the same building.

The meeting underscored the shared interest of Azerbaijan and Cambodia in building on their longstanding diplomatic relations and translating existing political goodwill into practical cooperation across a range of sectors.
