Ashgabat, November 2, 2026 – The Europe Today: A ceremonial conference was held on November 2, 2026, at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan to mark the awarding of the title of “Honorary Doctor in International Relations” by Türkiye’s Hacettepe University to President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, as well as the presentation of the “Strategic Friendship” distinction by the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Türkiye (DEİK).
The event was attended by heads of several ministries and government agencies of Turkmenistan, representatives of state institutions, officials of the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Turkmenistan, university faculty members and students.
During the conference, participants highlighted the steady development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Türkiye across political, economic, cultural, humanitarian and educational fields.
Particular attention was given to Turkmenistan’s foreign policy initiatives aimed at promoting international peace, trust and security, while expanding cooperation with countries of the Turkic world.
Speakers noted that the honorary academic title conferred by Hacettepe University and the “Strategic Friendship” distinction awarded by DEİK represented recognition of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s contribution to advancing international cooperation, strengthening global peace and security, and creating favourable conditions for expanding business relations.
They also highlighted the recognition of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy, which is based on the principles of permanent neutrality and seeks to promote constructive international engagement.
Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Turkmenistan Şener Cebeci underscored the importance of cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries. He also highlighted the inauguration of the new Park of Culture of Turkic States as a symbol of friendship and brotherhood among Turkic nations.
Participants emphasised that the current level of bilateral relations offers additional opportunities for implementing joint projects, strengthening institutional and business contacts, and further advancing the strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and Türkiye.
At the conclusion of the conference, participants adopted an address to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, expressing their sincere appreciation and congratulations on the conferment of the honorary doctorate by Hacettepe University and the presentation of the “Strategic Friendship” distinction by DEİK.
