Beijing, February 4, 2025 – The Europe Today: In a historic milestone for the global film industry, China’s box office revenue for 2025, including advance ticket sales, has officially exceeded 10 billion yuan (nearly $1.4 billion), solidifying its position as the world’s leading film market.
According to data from the National Film Administration, China’s cumulative box office earnings have now surpassed those of North America, securing the top spot in global rankings. As of 3:30 p.m. on Monday, the box office for the Spring Festival period alone reached a record-breaking 8 billion yuan (over $1.1 billion), marking an unprecedented achievement in the country’s cinematic history.
Driving this success is the animated blockbuster Ne Zha 2, which has outperformed last year’s Spring Festival champion, Yolo. The film has shattered over ten national box office records and is on track to become the highest-grossing film in China’s cinema history. Its predecessor, Ne Zha: Birth of the Demon Child (2019), stunned the industry with earnings of 5 billion yuan (around $690 million). The sequel builds on that success with a more compelling storyline and cutting-edge visual effects, igniting widespread discussion among audiences and critics alike.
China’s rapid cinematic evolution has reshaped the global film industry. Once viewed as a secondary hub for Hollywood’s visual effects production, Chinese studios are now at the forefront of CGI innovation, using advanced technology to bring culturally rich stories to life. This transformation highlights China’s growing influence in the global entertainment sector and its ability to compete with established film powerhouses.
With its record-breaking performance in 2025, China’s film industry continues to push boundaries, setting new standards for storytelling and technological advancements in cinema.
