Hanoi, February 17, 2025 – The Europe Today: National Assembly (NA) Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn on Sunday evening urged the trade unions of Vietnam to take significant strides in development and contribute meaningfully to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation, as well as the country’s industrialisation and modernisation efforts.
Addressing the first national conference held by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) to honour 95 outstanding workers who are Party members, Chairman Mẫn called upon trade union officials, members, and workers to thoroughly disseminate, grasp, and effectively implement the Party’s policies and guidelines, along with the State’s laws and regulations. Special attention was placed on matters related to the organisation and activities of trade unions and the legal framework concerning workers.
The NA Chairman stressed the importance of effective collaboration in implementing policies related to wage reforms, pension adjustments, social insurance allowances, social welfare, and housing for workers and low-income employees. He underscored that entering a new phase of national development requires a highly skilled workforce, urging trade unions to promote their pioneering role, set examples, and enhance their political integrity, professional qualifications, vocational skills, industrial work ethic, and discipline.
Furthermore, he highlighted the necessity of regularly understanding and addressing the concerns and aspirations of workers. He called for continuous innovation and enhanced effectiveness in representing, supporting, and protecting workers’ rights, which he believes will strengthen trust and unity between union members, workers, and trade unions.
Chairman Mẫn also expressed his expectations that the 95 exemplary workers recognised at the event will continue their efforts, share their experiences, and inspire innovation and creativity among their peers, encouraging others to strive for Party membership.
VGCL Chairman Nguyễn Đình Khang affirmed the trade union’s commitment to the Party’s objectives, emphasising its role in building a strong political system. He reported that in 2024, trade unions across the country recommended 158,813 outstanding union members for Party training and admission, of whom 80,327 were officially inducted, with workers comprising nearly 10 per cent of the total.
The conference marked a significant step in recognising the contributions of worker-Party members and reaffirming the trade unions’ crucial role in national development.
