Presidents of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan Hold Talks in Dushanbe to Deepen Strategic Partnership

Dushanbe, October 11, 2025 – The Europe Today: On October 9, 2025, the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, paid a working visit to Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan, to participate in the Second “Central Asia–Russia” Summit and the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

During his visit, President Berdimuhamedov held a bilateral meeting with the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon.

President Rahmon warmly welcomed his Turkmen counterpart and expressed gratitude for accepting the invitation to visit Tajikistan, noting that the visit would further strengthen the traditionally friendly and brotherly relations between the two countries.

Expressing appreciation for the hospitality, President Berdimuhamedov conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to President Rahmon.

President Berdimuhamedov also thanked President Rahmon for his participation in the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, held in Avaza in August 2025, and acknowledged the Tajik leader’s personal contribution to enhancing friendly relations between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan.

In response, President Rahmon extended his best wishes to Hero-Arkadag and underscored the importance of mutual visits at the highest level for the continued development of bilateral cooperation.

President Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan and Tajikistan share common positions on key issues of international and regional politics, expressing gratitude to the Tajik side for its support of Turkmenistan’s policy of positive neutrality and its co-sponsorship of Turkmen-initiated UN General Assembly resolutions.

The two leaders acknowledged the positive experience of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan within international organizations, primarily the United Nations, and emphasized the value of constructive collaboration on global and regional matters.

The discussions also covered regional security and environmental protection, with both sides highlighting the significance of the High-Level International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation, held in Dushanbe in May 2025.

The presidents further exchanged views on trade and economic cooperation, emphasizing the need to expand mutual trade, diversify economic ties, and tap into the full potential of both countries. In this regard, they underscored the role of the Turkmen-Tajik Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, whose last meeting took place in Ashgabat in October 2024, and considered holding its next session in the near future.

Cooperation in the cultural, scientific, and educational spheres was also discussed, reaffirming the shared commitment to strengthening ties in these areas.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Presidents Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Emomali Rahmon reaffirmed their commitment to deepening traditionally friendly relations between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan and exchanged warm wishes for peace and prosperity in both nations.
