Tokyo, January 20, 2026 – The Europe Today: Japan welcomed a record 42.7 million tourists in 2025, surpassing the 40-million mark for the first time, Tourism Minister Yasushi Kaneko announced at a press conference.
According to Minister Kaneko, total spending by inbound visitors reached 9.5 trillion yen (approximately $60 billion) over the year, setting a new record for tourism revenue.
The milestone highlights Japan’s growing appeal as a global travel destination and reflects continued recovery in the tourism sector following pandemic-related restrictions.
