Pakistan and Myanmar Pledge to Strengthen Multi-Sectoral Cooperation

Islamabad, January 26, 2026 – The Europe Today: Pakistan and Myanmar have reaffirmed their commitment to advancing multi-sectoral cooperation to further strengthen bilateral relations, following high-level discussions in Islamabad on Monday.

The talks were held between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, and Myanmar’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Than Swe, who is on a four-day official visit to Pakistan. Both leaders were accompanied by their respective delegations.

During the comprehensive discussions, the two sides reviewed the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and expressed their resolve to expand collaboration in areas including religious tourism, people-to-people contacts, and cultural exchanges, aimed at promoting shared prosperity.

The leaders also exchanged views on regional and international peace and security, agreeing to maintain close contact on matters of mutual interest.

Earlier, Minister Than Swe was warmly received by Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Speaking at a joint press conference after the talks, the Deputy Prime Minister described the discussions as highly productive and comprehensive, emphasizing Pakistan’s strong commitment to its relations with Myanmar and the importance of their longstanding friendship and cooperation.

During the visit, both countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Political Consultations between their foreign offices. The MoU establishes an institutional mechanism for regular engagement and sustained dialogue on bilateral, regional, and international matters, further strengthening diplomatic ties.
