French Prime Minister Postpones Cabinet Reshuffle Amid Anticipated No-Confidence Motion

French

Paris, February 22, 2026 – The Europe Today: French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, following consultations with President Emmanuel Macron, has postponed the previously announced government reshuffle in light of an expected no-confidence motion in parliament.

According to media reports, the decision to delay the cabinet reorganization comes as the right-wing National Rally party prepares to submit a no-confidence resolution criticizing the government’s energy policy. A source cited by a French newspaper indicated that the prime minister is awaiting the formal announcement of parliamentary discussions regarding the motion proposed by the National Rally.

The publication suggested that the cabinet reshuffle is unlikely to take place before February 25.

It has already been confirmed that three members of the government are set to leave their posts. Rachida Dati, currently serving as Minister of Culture, is expected to step down as she campaigns for the position of Mayor of Paris. Meanwhile, Amélie de Montchalin, Minister Delegate for the Budget and Public Accounts, has been appointed head of France’s Court of Auditors. Additionally, Charlotte Parmentier-Lecocq, Minister Delegate for Autonomy and Disability, is also set to vacate her office.

The postponement underscores the political sensitivities surrounding the government’s legislative agenda and the broader parliamentary dynamics ahead of the anticipated confidence vote.
