Morocco

Rabat, July 10, 2026 – The Europe Today: French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu will undertake his first official foreign visit since assuming office with a two-day trip to Morocco from July 15 to 16, underscoring the importance Paris places on strengthening its strategic partnership with Rabat.

According to France’s Prime Minister’s Office (Matignon), Lecornu is scheduled to arrive in the Moroccan capital on the evening of July 15, where he will be received at the airport by Moroccan Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, accompanied by several members of his cabinet.

The French premier will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising around a dozen ministers, including Foreign Affairs Minister Jean-Noël Barrot and Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez. The composition of the delegation reflects the broad scope of discussions expected during the visit, covering diplomacy, security cooperation, and other key bilateral issues.

On July 16, Prime Minister Lecornu and Prime Minister Akhannouch will hold bilateral talks focused on enhancing cooperation and addressing shared regional and international priorities. The two leaders are also expected to address a joint press conference following their meeting.

The visit’s agenda includes a high-level meeting between French and Moroccan officials at Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to review avenues for expanding collaboration across multiple sectors.

As part of the official programme, Prime Minister Lecornu will pay tribute at the Mausoleum of Mohammed V by laying a wreath, highlighting the historical and symbolic significance of the longstanding relationship between France and Morocco.

The visit will conclude with an official luncheon hosted by the Moroccan side before the French delegation departs Rabat later the same day.

The trip is widely seen as a strong signal of France’s commitment to reaffirming and deepening its partnership with Morocco. By selecting Rabat for his first overseas visit, Prime Minister Lecornu is expected to reinforce bilateral dialogue and cooperation on regional challenges, strategic interests, and issues of mutual importance, while maintaining the positive momentum in relations between the two countries despite occasional periods of diplomatic strain.
