Rabat, July 11, 2026 – The Europe Today: Morocco is reportedly engaged in advanced negotiations with France over the potential acquisition of 12 to 18 Dassault Rafale F4 multirole fighter jets, a move that would significantly strengthen the Royal Moroccan Air Force’s operational capabilities. While discussions are said to have reached an advanced stage, neither Rabat nor Paris has officially confirmed the proposed agreement.
According to multiple media reports, the negotiations involve a government-to-government framework and could lead to deliveries of the aircraft between 2030 and 2031 if an agreement is finalized. The reported package may also include options for Airbus A330 MRTT aerial refueling tankers and Scorpène-class submarines, further expanding defense cooperation between the two countries.
The reported talks come amid delays in the delivery of Morocco’s previously ordered 25 U.S.-built F-16 Block 70/72 fighter jets, prompting speculation that Rabat is seeking to diversify its defense procurement strategy. Morocco already operates F-16 aircraft and continues to modernize its air force in response to evolving regional security requirements.
If concluded, the agreement would mark a significant milestone in Franco-Moroccan defense relations and revive a long-standing effort to introduce the Rafale into Morocco’s military inventory after an earlier procurement attempt in 2007 did not materialize.
Defense analysts say the reported negotiations reflect Morocco’s continued commitment to modernizing its armed forces and enhancing its air combat capabilities, although officials from both governments have yet to issue any formal confirmation regarding the reported deal.
