Direct Dushanbe–Moscow Passenger Rail Service to Resume on June 21

Dushanbe, June 3, 2026 – The Europe Today: The Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan has announced that direct passenger rail services between Dushanbe and Moscow will resume on June 21, marking the restoration of a key international rail corridor operated by state-run Tajik Railways.

According to the ministry, the route will operate once every two weeks and will be carried out in coordination with Russian Railways as well as railway authorities in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

The first train is scheduled to depart Dushanbe on Sunday, June 21, at 3:25 p.m. local time and is expected to arrive at Moscow’s Paveletsky Station on Wednesday at 10:08 p.m. local time. The return service will depart from Moscow on June 25 at 6:05 a.m., reaching Dushanbe on Monday at 2:48 a.m.

The journey takes approximately four days and passes through Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Russia, with scheduled stops at several cities including Bukhara, Nukus, Kungrad, Kandyagash, Aktobe, Sol-Iletsk, Orenburg, Samara, Syzran, Kuznetsk, Penza, Ryazhsk, Skopin and Ozherelye, among others.

Tickets are available for purchase up to 45 days before departure. Seats for departures from Dushanbe are already on sale, while tickets for the return journey from Moscow will be released at a later date.

For the June 21 departure, fares have been set at 2,617.6 somoni (approximately $240) for third-class sleeper cars and 3,713.42 somoni (approximately $340) for second-class compartment cars. Russian Railways has listed corresponding fares at 20,089 rubles and 28,499 rubles, respectively.

Currently, Tajik Railways operates three passenger routes connecting Tajikistan and Russia, including Kulyab–Volzhsky, Dushanbe–Volzhsky and Khujand–Volzhsky, each running on a weekly basis.

The restoration of the Dushanbe–Moscow route follows coordinated efforts between railway authorities of Tajikistan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to enhance regional passenger connectivity and cross-border transport cooperation.
