Dushanbe, June 14, 2026 — The Europe Today: The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Nations, Jonibek Hikmat, met with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, Li Junhua, to discuss key outcomes of the Fourth International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028,” held in Dushanbe.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the results of the conference and exchanged views on the implementation of its outcomes, as well as the advancement of international initiatives related to the water sector.
Special attention was given to the implementation of global water initiatives of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, including the proposal to establish the “Dushanbe Water Framework” as a platform to strengthen international cooperation and accelerate action within the global water agenda.
The two sides also discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Nations system in promoting the global water agenda, including through joint events and initiatives on the margins of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF).
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation in supporting preparations for the upcoming United Nations Water Conferences in 2026 and 2028.
