Barisan Nasional

Kuala Lumpur, July 12, 2026 – The Europe Today: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated Barisan Nasional (BN) on its victory in the 16th Johor state election, pledging the Federal Government’s full cooperation in advancing the state’s development and serving the interests of its people.

In a Facebook statement issued after the election results, Anwar said the mandate entrusted to BN must be exercised with integrity and a firm commitment to the welfare of Johor and its residents. He stressed that with the democratic process concluded, attention should now shift to governance, public service, and fostering a more prosperous and progressive Johor.

The Prime Minister also expressed his appreciation to Johor’s voters for participating in the democratic process and thanked election officials, security personnel, and party workers for ensuring the polls were conducted smoothly and peacefully.

Anwar reaffirmed that the Federal Government would continue to work closely with the Johor state administration to implement development initiatives and improve the well-being of the people, regardless of political differences. He emphasized that cooperation between the federal and state governments remains essential to promoting economic growth, strengthening infrastructure, and enhancing public services.

According to the official results, BN secured a commanding victory by winning 48 of the 56 seats in the Johor State Legislative Assembly, while Anwar’s Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition won eight seats. The outcome reinforces BN’s position in Johor while testing the dynamics of the federal unity government formed by BN and PH following Malaysia’s 2022 general election.
