Ashgabat Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Friday visited the Independence Monument in Ashgabat and the Turkmenbashi Ruhy Mosque in the village of Kipchak as part of his official visit to Turkmenistan, according to Turkmen state media.
At the Independence Monument, the Malaysian premier was received by Ashgabat Mayor Rahym Gandymov. Anwar Ibrahim laid flowers at the monument in tribute and participated in a tree-planting ceremony at the Alley of Honoured Guests, reflecting the ceremonial aspects of his official visit.
According to official reports, the visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Malaysia and Turkmenistan, which have gained momentum following the official visit of Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Malaysia in 2024. Both countries have also continued to support each other’s initiatives on international platforms, including within the framework of the United Nations.
Later, the Malaysian prime minister visited the Turkmenbashi Ruhy Mosque in Kipchak, where he was received by the Mufti of Turkmenistan, Yalkap Khojaguliyev. During his visit, Anwar Ibrahim performed Friday prayers and laid flowers at the mosque’s mausoleum.
The visit underscores ongoing efforts by both nations to deepen diplomatic engagement, expand cultural understanding, and enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
