Washington, October 5, 2026 – The Europe Today: The United States has withdrawn its B-1 bombers from RAF Fairford in the United Kingdom, a week after several individuals were arrested on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts targeting the air base, according to a Pentagon official.
Around a dozen B-1 bombers had been stationed at RAF Fairford, northwest of London, and had been used in US military strikes against Iran. The Pentagon confirmed that all US bombers deployed to the facility had been redeployed to their home stations in the United States, citing operational security concerns.
The withdrawal follows the arrest of several men in connection with a suspected plot targeting the military facility. British authorities have said there are strong indications of Iranian involvement in the alleged plot, while Iran has rejected the accusations as baseless and summoned the British ambassador in Tehran.
RAF Fairford has played an important role in US military operations, including strikes against Iranian missile sites that had targeted vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The security concerns surrounding the base have prompted heightened attention to the safety of US military assets stationed in Britain.
US President Donald Trump has said the suspected plot could have caused significant damage, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also suggested the involvement of a foreign actor. British and US authorities continue to investigate the alleged security threat.
