Baku, October 6, 2026 – The Europe Today: Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Aryeh Lightstone, Senior Advisor to the U.S. Special Envoy for Peace Missions, in Baku on October 6 to discuss the current state and prospects of Azerbaijan-US relations and regional developments.
During the meeting, Bayramov highlighted the significance of the historic summit held in Washington on August 8, 2025, which contributed to elevating Azerbaijan-US relations to the level of a strategic partnership. The sides noted the rapid development of bilateral cooperation across various areas following the agreements reached during the summit.
Particular attention was paid to the Strategic Partnership Charter signed between Azerbaijan and the United States on February 10, 2026. The sides stressed the importance of the Charter in strengthening the institutional framework of bilateral relations and opening new avenues for cooperation.
The officials reviewed the activities of the Charter’s working groups and efforts to develop concrete projects and roadmaps for the upcoming period.
The meeting also focused on prospects for expanding economic and energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United States. The sides highlighted the significance of agreements reached in the fields of energy, investment, high technologies and other sectors during Baku Energy Week and the 2nd Azerbaijan International Investment Forum in reinforcing the economic foundations of the bilateral strategic partnership.
Bayramov briefed the US official on infrastructure projects currently underway to enhance the region’s energy, transport and logistics potential, expand the Middle Corridor, attract investment and strengthen regional connectivity.
The TRIPP project was also discussed as an important initiative aimed at improving regional transport and economic connectivity, ensuring an uninterrupted connection between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan through Azerbaijani territory, and expanding transit opportunities across the region.
The sides further exchanged views on the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Bayramov briefed Lightstone on Azerbaijan’s efforts to advance its peace agenda, implement agreements reached, open regional communications and promote lasting peace and stability in the region. He also conveyed Azerbaijan’s position on issues related to the peace process and regional developments.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to further develop the Azerbaijan-US strategic partnership across all areas of mutual interest and translating existing agreements into concrete and practical outcomes.
