Baku, October 8, 2026 – The Europe Today: The foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan held another round of consular consultations in Baku on October 7, focusing on strengthening bilateral consular cooperation and enhancing the protection of citizens’ rights.
The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Emil Safarov, Head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the Uzbek delegation was headed by Abduvakhit Tursunov, Deputy Head of the Consular and Legal Department of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Representatives of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Science and Education, State Migration Service and State Border Service, along with representatives of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Azerbaijan, also participated in the consultations.
The discussions covered the current state of consular cooperation between the two countries and prospects for its further development.
The participants emphasized the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation in migration, justice, internal affairs, education and social affairs.
Particular attention was paid to strengthening the legal framework governing bilateral cooperation to ensure the rights and protection of citizens of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
The two sides also discussed practical measures aimed at improving coordination between relevant institutions and addressing consular matters of mutual interest.
Following the consultations, the delegations signed the protocol of the meeting, formalizing the outcomes of the discussions and providing a basis for continued cooperation in the consular sphere.
